An alleged UFO recovery near Magenta, Italy, during the rule of Benito Mussolini. The account claims that Italian authorities secured an unconventional aircraft and studied it through a secret research body known as Gabinetto RS/33. The story became publicly known through documents circulated by Italian UFO researchers beginning in the 1990s and received renewed attention after David Grusch discussed the alleged incident in 2023. The recovery, the existence of the alleged research program, and the purported transfer of the craft to the United States remain unverified.
The Magenta incident is one of the earliest widely discussed alleged government UFO-recovery cases. According to the account promoted by Italian UFO researcher Roberto Pinotti and the Centro Ufologico Nazionale (CUN), an unconventional aircraft came down or made a forced landing near Magenta, west of Milan, in June 1933. The Fascist government allegedly ordered secrecy, recovered the object, and arranged for its examination by a specialist group called Gabinetto RS/33, reportedly associated with scientist Guglielmo Marconi. Some versions of the narrative claim the craft was later transferred to the United States near the end of the Second World War. The main documentary basis consists of papers said to have been received anonymously by Pinotti beginning in 1996. Their provenance and interpretation remain disputed, and no independently verifiable public record establishes that the alleged craft recovery or secret research program occurred. In 2023, former U.S. intelligence official David Grusch referred to the incident in the context of broader crash-retrieval allegations. His statements brought the case renewed attention but do not constitute publicly examinable physical proof of the 1933 event.
