Type: Interview Transcript
Source: G. V. Sorokin; transcript of an interview conducted at the Union of Journalists of Karelia, Petrozavodsk, March 4, 1985
A 15-page transcript associated with the reported UFO encounter involving freight train No. 1702 in Karelia on February 17, 1985. The transcript is identified in published case bibliographies as a record of an interview with locomotive driver Sergey Orlov and assistant driver Viktor Mironov, conducted on March 4, 1985, at the Union of Journalists in Petrozavodsk. The crew reportedly described a luminous object travelling near and ahead of their train, unusual changes in the train's speed, and communications with railway personnel during the incident. The transcript is an important source for reconstructing the witnesses' reported observations. It should not be confused with an official railway accident investigation, a verified locomotive data recording, or independent proof that an unidentified object physically affected the train. Researchers have proposed Venus and viewing-angle effects along the railway as a possible explanation for aspects of the account. The source is available as a Russian-language PDF.
