A Russian rocket stage associated with the launch of the Cosmos 2238 satellite re-entered Earth's atmosphere during the period of the 1993 British UFO wave. The re-entry provides a strong conventional explanation for many of the bright, high-altitude objects reported across Britain. Contemporary MoD correspondence nevertheless noted that the re-entry did not straightforwardly account for some low-level reports, including the Shawbury meteorological officer's observation.
