Type: Military Witness Report
Source: RAF Shawbury / Met Office
At approximately 0240 hours on March 31, 1993, the RAF Shawbury meteorological officer reported seeing lights approaching the airfield from approximately 15–20 kilometres away. The witness described erratic movement followed by apparently slower movement and reported that the lights appeared to be searching for something. A low-frequency humming sound was also reported. The released report states that the witness had been a meteorological officer for eight years and had never seen anything similar. Later accounts identify the witness as Wayne Elliott. Subsequent analysis proposed that the beam could have originated from a police helicopter, although this explanation does not necessarily account for every aspect of the original report.
