Judah Bento Ruah photographed the crowd at Cova da Iria for O Século during the October 13, 1917 event. Several of the photographs were subsequently published in Illustração Portugueza on October 29, 1917. The surviving images show people looking toward the sky and provide contemporary visual documentation of the gathering. They should not be labeled as photographs of the Miracle of the Sun itself because the alleged solar motion is not visibly recorded in the photographs.
