Jane Lead

Christian mystic and religious author

Jane Lead (1623–1704) was an English Christian mystic and religious writer whose spiritual diary records visions and experiences she interpreted through her Christian mystical beliefs. In an entry dated February 9, 1678, titled "A Transport," she described seeing a magnificent golden, winged ship descend before her and then withdraw upward out of sight. Lead described the experience as occurring while she felt separated from her ordinary bodily state. The account survives in A Fountain of Gardens, a published collection of her spiritual writings.
