Lee Roy Gaitan

Lee Roy Gaitan

On January 8, 2008, Lee Roy Gaitan, a constable in Stephenville, Texas, reported witnessing a massive, silent aerial phenomenon that became known as the Stephenville Lights. Gaitan observed a reddish-orange orb hovering approximately 3,000 feet above the ground, which he described as resembling an erupting volcano, followed by a cluster of bright white lights that zigzagged and then accelerated at extreme speed toward the northeast.

Despite initial U.S. Air Force denials, radar data later confirmed an unidentified object with no transponder moving rapidly over the area, heading toward President Bush’s Crawford Ranch. Gaitan, along with hundreds of other witnesses including pilots and law enforcement, stated that F-16 fighter jets were seen in pursuit of the lights after they vanished, leading Gaitan to suspect a classified military experiment, though no official confirmation of such a program exists.

The incident drew global media attention and remains one of the most documented mass UFO sightings of the 21st century, with Gaitan later participating in investigations and documentaries, such as Netflix’s Encounters, to advocate for the credibility of the sighting
