W. I. Robinson

Geology Professor

W. I. Robinson was a professor of geology at Texas Technological College and one of the three scientists who made the first widely reported Lubbock Lights observation on August 25, 1951.

Robinson was at his home in Lubbock with fellow professors A. G. Oberg and W. L. Ducker at approximately 9 p.m. when they saw a formation of roughly 20–30 luminous objects moving silently across the sky. They described the lights as being brighter than stars and moving rapidly from horizon to horizon. A second formation reportedly appeared while the three men were discussing what they had just seen.

Robinson is particularly important because he reported the sighting to the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal, which helped bring the incident to public attention and led other witnesses to come forward.
