Roger Willey

Roger Willey

Willey was a Devon & Cornwall Police officer, stationed in the Okehampton area in 1967. At the time of the incident he was on nighttime mobile patrol with PC Clifford Waycott, in patrol car Delta Nine.

At approximately 4:01 a.m. on October 24, 1967, the two officers encountered the object while travelling on the A3072 between Hatherleigh and Holsworthy.

Willey's description is particularly useful because we have his own words rather than just a later UFO author's interpretation.

He described the object as resembling a cross with brilliant white light radiating from it. In a contemporary press account he characterized it as a "star-spangled cross" with points of light radiating in different directions.

In a later ITN interview, he gave a somewhat more detailed description: the central portions appeared blurred, while the object itself was extremely brilliant white.

He was the one who initiated the pursuit
